ADVANCED SEARCH
Search Tutorial
Explanations of Search Window (see note at bottom!): --COUNTY/PARISH: This box lets you choose the area of your state to search. Choose ‘All Counties/Parishes’ to search the entire state, or hold the Ctrl Key while clicking on specific counties you want included the search. Many newspapers upload their notices under the county heading the newspaper resides in, not the county mentioned in the notice. For this reason it is better to search multiple counties in a given area. Or choose 'ALL COUNTIES/PARISHES' and in the 'With all these words' field type in the county you want. The notices have the county covered mentioned in the notice. -- PUBLICATION: You can search either all newspapers or only one newspaper. --SEARCH NOTICES- Under this heading you will find four different search fields. The fewer the words used in a field, the faster the search. NEVER use common words like THE, or symbols such as quotations, apostrophe or commas. Just use spaces between search words. You can use just one field, or multiple fields – but a search using all the fields maybe too limiting and not find any notices. How to use each field is described below. Search Notices: -- ‘With all these words’: means it will find only notices that have all the words you type in this field. But the notice it finds can have the words in any order, whether they are adjacent or not. Use only spaces between words (same in all fields). -- 'With this exact phrase': The search will find the words you type and in the order you type them. -- 'With at least one of these words': This field can have multiple words and the search will find notices that have any one word, some of the words or all the words. -- 'Exclude notices with these words': This field will exclude notices from your search that contain a word(s) you specify in this field. -- You must include at least one word in the ‘With all these words’ field, the 'With this exact phrase' field, or the 'With at least one of these words' field. Searches cannot only contain words to be excluded. DATE RANGE: Speed your search by specifying short date periods, perhaps a week. Date must be entered using the format: mm/dd/yy. Example: 10/01/06 to 10/07/06. If searching for notices older than 90 days from current date, click on link below the date range, and then enter your search criteria and dates. Under the date range is the 'GO' button. Clicking on this button starts the search. If you do not see the 'GO' button, it is most likely due to 'Java Scripting' turned off in your browser. This must be enabled for you to use the search. NOTE: --Use as few words as possible. --Use only the search fields needed. -- Filling in all the fields will likely NOT find any notices. --If a word might have a plural form in a notice, use it as well – such as ‘proposal’ and ‘proposals’ --Must set a date range for the search, in the format displayed (mm/dd/yy). --If searching for notices older than 90 days from current date, click on link below the date range, then enter your criteria and dates.
